Hellen Sky (Australia)

Hellen Sky is an Australian digital choreographer / performer / director / writer. Her inter-disciplinary work bridges dance, performance, theatre, and installation extended through new technologies. She collaborates with artists, scientists, performers, composers, academics, designers, writers, architects, interface designers and programmers to develop scores and technology systems that often use real time data generated by the body to effect the relationship between multiple media to form total choreographies for live performance and installations. Hellen studied at the Australian Ballet School and at the Victorian College of the Arts. She was a member of the Australian Performing Group (Pram Factory) and a founding member of Circus Oz. She was co-founder of internationally recognized new media performance company, Company In Space, 1992–2004 (with John Mc Cormick); Fellow of the Australia Council Dance Fund 2004–06; Nominee of the Leonardo MIT, Rockerfeller Ford Foundation Global Crossing Award 05; and co-founder and Artistic Director of Dancehouse, Centre for Moving Arts, Melbourne from 1991–2001.
"Hellen Sky’s transdisciplinary performances can be seen as the contemporary example of what Richard Wagner called Gesamtkunstwerk, or Total Artwork which aims to develop a non-linear live performance which poetically balances the capacity of story, dance, sound, image, light, spatial and costume design, and is mediated through real-time technology." (Melinda Rackham, Director, ANAT—Australian Network for Art and Technology)
"Hellen Sky is a visionary in the field of performance/technology truly a hybrid artist who creatively orchestrates physics, consciousness and aesthetics to create multi-dimensional transformative theatrical experiences … that integrates computer animation, motion capture and interactive technologies to poetically bridge the human and the technological, the mundane and the lofty." (Ellen Bromberg, Director, The Center for Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology, University of Utah, USA)
"Hellen is very active worldwide and has a visible global influence (in Oceania, Europe and Asia). Her work combines the latest tele-media technologies, strong theoretical and choreographic craftsmanship, and stunningly beautiful performances" (Nisar Keshvani, Editor in Chief, LEA; Editor of Leonardo Global MIT)

Rubens(Estonia):
The essential nature of Rubens is something so modern and contemporary that only our horrible era is able to produce.
Reality where at the end everything, absolutely and inevitably becomes one and the same. The whole and nothing. The true and final meaning is not only unavailable imperscrutable but it just does not exist.

Eric Scott Nelson(USA)

ESN has created projects and performances in the USA, Europe, and Asia. His work is often multi-layered and involves exploring the relationship of place, people, action, and language. The foundation of many of his projects and performances comes from a 'word map'. These maps are created by writing a word, usually a verb, by walking through the streets in different cities. It is within these maps that thoughts are formed, images and sounds are gathered, and actions are explored. The projects are then further expanded upon by making additional performances and other work connected to the original word and place. ESN's formal art education was at Arizona State University, where he focused on video, sound art, and performance. He is currently living in Seoul, S. Korea.

Han Bing [China]

Han Bing (1974- ) grew up in an impoverished village in rural China. Moving to Beijing, he witnessed the harsh contrast between the urbanized "Chinese dream" propelling the nation's struggle to become "modern," and the cruel realities of those left behind, or trodden underfoot in this stampede. As a clarion voice from the "new contemporary art of the everyday" in the "globalized, post-colonial context," Han Bing expresses the struggles and desires in the "theater of modernization." His works use photography, video and multimedia performance installation to invert quotidian practice, making us rethink the order of things and the human condition. Han Bing's art manifests a kind of amor mundi—love of the world—investing ordinary objects from everyday life with a subtle sense of the sacred. Prominent contemporary art exhibitions across Europe, Asia and the US have featured his work.

Orion Maxted's work is about the human condition. About living in a world dictated by our own cognition, a world of discreet infinity. In his performance, he questions the root of understanding through an exploration of circular and circuitous inquiry and action

Martin Renteria (Mexico)

MARTIN RENTERIA starts with the body and creates rituals, where actions, objects and atmospheres provoke all kind of interpretations of the same reality. He plays with universal concepts such as space, power, balance, time, uncertainty, human-being essence and the urgency to establish genuine relationships, by means of symbols that cause reactions and reflections in every spectator. Concerned with evolution, Renteria’s work invites us to analyze present time from which emanates questions about the soul and the planet’s destination, and to undertake ways towards higher conscience levels.

[KEAF2011] James Topple

000039.JPG

James Topple (UK)

After experiencing a teenage identity crisis and a self-termed ‘romance of self loathing’ during his early twenties, James Topple read and shredded every piece of angst-ridden poetry he had ever written in his degree show and began a new life exploring his postmodern self. Using throwaway terms such as ‘ignorantism’ and wearing his trademark ‘I love thinking’ t-shirt, Topple presents a self-reflection that is fragmented and malleable. Often making cynical and self-righteous social commentaries, Topple likes to adopt the direct approach of advertising to portray brutally honest judgments. Wishing the viewers to look inside themselves, he claims he has stamped his name upon opinions that may or may not be his own, looking to provoke a reaction of some kind of mirror effect on his audience.

[KEAF2011] TBL-Tall Blond Ladies

TBL-Tall Blond Ladies

TBL (TallBlondLadies) is a Swedish/German performance duo between Anna Berndtson and Irina Runge. Since its start in 2003 TBL is a significant part of both their artistic work.

TBL works with the image of woman. They use different female types found in our society and through Tags: combination of materials they create collages of female metaphors. TBL are not working out of the emotional but their performances derive out of the formal and the structure.

All performances by TBL are placed in basic forms. In the doubling they find synchronised movement patterns. Sound is vital as part of each performance. Both sound and form are used by TBL to discover rhythm and timelessness.
